Backyard Ultra - world record challenged

Backyard Ultra - world record challenged

Today at the Biotropica Backyard Ultra both the male and female world records were challenged subject to ratification.

The female record of 95 laps, held by the UK’s Sarah Perry , was improved by 1 lap by Vera Chekalina.

The male record was contested by 3 athletes, breaking Phil Gore’s record of 119 laps. Ivan Zaborsky, who was the favourite, stopped at 121 laps. Dmitry Sheremet had the assist with 122 laps and the winner and likely future record holder was Dmitry Klimov with 123 laps , over 500 miles of running.

This is an interesting event as they allow people to donate to the prize pot! Some social media has also reported that the overall winner will receive apartment!

There was a lot of big laps at this event with the route being described as a dirt track with next to no elevation. They also had a water station at the half way point which people were contesting was against the rules. However as it was available to all it is within the rules. It is against the rules to accept any personal aid on a backyard route!
